All pets should have a safe environment, enough affection, and nourishment, but there are still people who think animals don’t deserve it. And these are the very same people who commit such acts of abuse and neglect to others around them.
While many of these acts go unpunished, some groups or individuals care for the welfare of everyone, not just humans. They also take action to prosecute the abusers and protect the victims.
Be warned that some of these stories have sensitive issues and deal with tragic events. Let’s take a look.
12. Senior Dog Abandoned Twice Finds Forever Home

It is no surprise that as a dog ages, they will need special care. Like all dogs, we need to provide them with love, care, and comfort but sadly not all dogs receive what they need.
This is what happened to Guac, a 15-year-old Chihuahua who was first found as a stray by The Pawerful Rescue, an animal shelter in Texas. After spending months in the shelter she was adopted and this would’ve been her second chance. However, in a cruel twist of fate, she was surrendered to the same shelter months later.
After being abandoned twice the shelter took action and began to look for Guac’s forever home where she could spend the rest of her life in love and comfort. And in a blessed turn of events she is now part of a family with humans and other pet siblings called The Fellowship Bean.
11. Baby Boo Is Looking For A Second Chance At Life

Boo is a 10-year-old Pitbull Mix that was surrendered to a rescue shelter in San Jose on March 2024. While there were no signs of abuse it’s still heart-breaking that the former owners gave her up due to medical bills piling up.
Boo was taken to a vet exam once she was pulled out of the shelter and was found to have 2 different skin infections, a paw injury, ear infections, and bad teeth. The vets suspected she had been suffering all of these for several years.
But her dedicated foster moms have played a key role in her journey to recovery because of their love and treatment plan. After just a few months of medical treatment, her fur is growing back and her other conditions are improving or almost gone.
Thanks to her rescuers at the Silicon Valley Pet Project she is facing her challenges with courage and joy as she knows she is not alone anymore.
Boo is an affectionate dog who loves cuddles, and now she is looking for a loving family to adopt her and a second chance at life.
10. Dog Spends 1st Birthday In A Shelter

A shelter dog named Cash is a Labrador Retriever Mix that has sadness in his eyes even though he’s celebrating a special occasion. The problem is it’s his 1st birthday and he is spending it in a kennel alone.
The staff at the Humane Society of Boward County has done a terrific job at taking care of him and giving him a cookie for his special day but the only thing that could top it all off is finding a home with his forever family.
Cash was surrendered to the shelter because of his chewing tendencies. While it is normal for dogs to have lots of energy and have a chewing habit, his former owners didn’t have the patience or the understanding.
Now Cash is looking for a loving home. He understands basic obedience commands and has great leash discipline. It won’t be hard for the right person to bond with him as he is an intelligent, playful yet well-behaved dog.
9. Magistrate Guilty Of Neglecting Dogs’ Severe Skin Condition

A magistrate of 30 years had owned 2 puppies. The first one developed skin issues and was taken to the vet where she was tested to find out what her condition was and gave her treatment. However, the owner believed that the treatment didn’t work and they didn’t return to the vet for a follow-up. The second dog developed the same skin condition but was never brought to any vet.
When the investigator looked at the dogs they were both in awful conditions. The first one wore a baby jumper to prevent her skin from bleeding but it was already fused to her skin as she wore it for 2 years. Both dogs smelled bad and when tests were taken they had allergies to different things.
After 2 weeks of treatment, the dogs began to grow their fur again. They didn’t smell and weren’t in any discomfort. They weren’t scratching anymore and there was no scaling.
The magistrate and her daughter were found guilty and both were sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work and separate fines. It should be noted that both dogs had insurance.
8. Abused Dog Suffers From Mental And Emotional Trauma

In a recording, a man is heard shouting at Lucy, a rottweiler. He screamed things like “Don’t look at me.” and “Don’t make me hit you.” as neighbors heard loud thuds followed by Lucy’s cries and whimpers making everyone that heard think she was being hit.
In another recording, he could be heard shouting at Lucy to prevent her from “robbing” him of something. He would also yell “Shut it!”, and then Lucy’s yelps would be heard again. He would also always refer to her as “dog”.
Lucy was taken by the police and turned over to the custody of the RSPCA and was assessed by a vet and a dog behavior analyst. They both confirmed that Lucy suffered from mental and emotional trauma from her abuser and would react negatively when a man was around.
Her abuser denied any physical harm but admitted that he terrorized Lucy over an extended period of time. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced accordingly. Now Lucy is on the path to recovery and staff says she is a lovely dog that has bonded with her caregivers. However, she will still need time to adjust to her new surroundings.

Griffin and Magnar are two dogs that endured a life of torture and neglect. Griffin, a senior dog was found running loose with a leather strap wrapped tightly around his snout and was covered in open wounds and scars.

While they investigated where Griffin came they found Magnar, a younger Boxer chained to a post outside in the snow with scars covering his legs. 11 cats were also found cramped in small crates stacked on top of each other in the freezing weather. They had no food, water, and shelter.
The rescue team, the Cle Elum Police, and Ellensburg Animal Control all worked together to bring all the animals to safety, provided medical treatment, and gave legal protection to the animals as the abuser fought to get them back.
After months of work, they reported that the abuser pled guilty to Animal Cruelty and the Second Degree. Griffin, Magnar, and the cats finally saw justice for the horrors they had to endure.
3. A Fighting Dog’s Bout For Survival

Pasado’s Safe Haven responded to Bruno, a victim of a dog fighting ring. His body was covered in scars and bite marks. He also had BB wounds all over his skin, probably being shot at to encourage aggression when fighting.
After being rescued, Bruno showed he still had love to give whenever and wherever he met people. His tail would still wag and he would shower those who cared for him with kisses.
Meanwhile, the rescue team was at work trying to bring Bruno’s abusers to justice, and after a few months, his abusers were convicted of Animal Cruelty. But despite valiant efforts, the criminal received no jail time.
After almost 2 years in sanctuary, Bruno developed an aggressive form of cancer and peacefully passed away surrounded by his friends and caregivers. He spent his last days enjoying car rides, walking in the park, and cozying up to his buddies, knowing that he was a good boy.

From The Club
It has been said that all dogs deserve a family, but not everyone deserves a dog. These kinds of stories break my heart, and it is infuriating that we as humans are capable of such acts towards innocent creatures. I hope that one day, we all live in harmony with animals and that all those who abuse them are brought to justice.
