Do you trust a dog’s instincts? The Jordan family did and they saved their child from harm and disturbing consequences.
They say that dogs have the ability to sense if a person is bad. They can detect emotions by observing body language cues, tone of voice, and chemical changes in a person’s body. The story that follows prove just how instinctive dogs can be. It’s about the Jordan family, their quest for finding a kindhearted babysitter, and the shocking discovery made by their dog Killian.

In Charleston, South Carolina, there lives a family with a seven-month old baby called Finn and a dog named Killian. Both are primarily taken care of by Benjamin and Hope Jordan (Finn’s parents). For days when Benjamin and Hope aren’t at home, they wanted a babysitter to look after the infant, and so they hired one. The seemingly reliable babysitter was Alexis Khan, but later on, the truth about her was uncovered. Thanks to Killian and his ability to detect a person’s emotions, it was exposed that the Jordans hired an abusive babysitter.
How Killian and the Jordans Uncovered the Shocking Truth
Before jumping to the discovery of truth, let’s talk about how the Jordans ended up hiring the 22-year-old babysitter. Like any other caring family, the Jordans thought they did well on the hiring process. They followed a thorough procedure for researching and interviewing candidates, and Alexis came out as the best choice. Even then, they further checked her background and found no criminal records or other anomalies.
Things went smoothly for Alexis and Finn in the first few months, and the parents were relieved about their decision. However, as months pass by, they noticed a significant change in Killian’s behavior, especially when he’s near Alexis. Killian is usually well-mannered and quiet but whenever Alexis was around, he growled and placed himself between Alexis and Finn as if protecting the latter. Killian’s eyes were also intense and focused on Alexis. All these caused Benjamin and Hope to worry.

The Jordans trusted Kilian’s instincts and decided to secretly monitor Alexis while she’s interacting with Finn. The parents placed an iPhone under the living room couch, left home, and recorded everything while they were at work. What the audio captured was appalling. Alexis was verbally abusing their child, her voice filled with anger as she screamed profanities. The sounds of slapping and rustling from rough handling were also clear, proving she was physically abusing Finn.
With the help of Charleston police, Alexis admitted her wrongdoings. She was found guilty to assault and battery, and was punished with a maximum of three-year sentence in jail. According to the Jordans, it was only through Killian they found out the truth, and so he was instrumental in saving Finn’s life.

A Dog’s Instincts and Powerful Sense of Smell

Because of what happened at the Jordan household, Killian also discovered something great about his capabilities. After displaying his exceptional instincts, he’s now training to become a psychiatric service animal. This kind of job would allow him to serve others by using his protective instincts.
The instincts of Killian and other heroic dogs largely depend on their sense of smell. Sniffing is how they interact with the world; one sniff and they can detect something accurately. A dog in a new territory, for instance, can determine what other dog breeds lived in the area by sniffing the tree. A dog can also tell if a visitor has pets at home by smelling his or her pants. Dogs can accomplish so much with their powerful sense of smell and instincts, and perhaps the most amazing feat they can achieve is saving a human from a tragedy.

From The Club
This story only strengthened my belief that dogs aren’t just here for basic companionship. They also help us see things that could be difficult to notice or understand initially. In some way, they act like our guides, helping us navigate challenging terrains and find safe paths. I support Killian for pursuing a job he could excel in. It’s also an opportunity for him to show the world that dogs’ loyalty and courage are beyond measure.
