There’s been a noticeable difference in the overall health of Roscoe, Lewis Hamilton’s Bulldog, four years after taking on a plant-based lifestyle.
In recent years, plant-based diet has made headlines for its wonderful health benefits. It’s different from vegan diet since it doesn’t require elimination of all animal products, keeping those familiar protein-rich foods. A lot of people have switched to a plant-based lifestyle but what about dogs? I haven’t even considered it might work for pups until I’ve seen the story of Roscoe.
According to his owner, British race car driver Lewis Hamilton, Roscoe is now a different dog because of the plant-based diet he’s been following. Roscoe’s coat changed and is now softer. He’s also more energetic and didn’t struggle that much with health issues. The F1 icon decided to help Roscoe transition to a plant-based diet after doing some research and seeing the benefits that it brought to his life. Hamilton started living a plant-based lifestyle seven years ago.
Why the Switch to a Plant-Based Diet?
In an exclusive interview, Hamilton shared that he has always prioritized giving Roscoe a quality life, and for that to realize, improving his diet was necessary. For eight years, Roscoe followed a normal diet, which involved heavy meat consumption. His owner recalled how he struggled with certain activities like walking and breathing during all those years. Hamilton also said that the pup always had to deal with health problems.
Today, Hamilton can confidently say that his dog is in better health. He went on to say to other dog parents that a plant-based diet could be helpful, life-changing even, but only if the pup is getting all its other nutritional needs. As for Hamilton’s plant-based journey, he doubted at first if he would get all the nutrients he needed as an athlete. But that didn’t prove to be a problem when he managed to incorporate other protein-rich foods into this diet.

Dog Food that Makes a Difference
Roscoe’s transformation inspired his owner to go into a new venture, and that is investing in Bramble, a plant-based dog food. Formulated by vet nutritionists, this dog food has been lab tested to ensure that it packs all the amino acids and other nutrients needed by pups. Bramble is also free of any chemicals or preservatives and is only made with fresh and whole-food ingredients.
Currently, Hamilton and his dog Roscoe is leading a 4-week challenge, wherein dogs and their owners can experience the amazing benefits of plant-based lifestyle. The challenge involves feeding your pup with whole foods and discovering the delicious savory flavor of Bramble. If you’re ready to take the challenge, here are few tips to help your dog switch to a new food:
- Before anything else, it’s best to review your dog’s nutritional needs with your vet and ensure that all these are being met.
- Transition to the new food gradually by mixing the old food with the new one. 75% old food and 25% dog food is a good starting point.
- Observe any changes to your pup’s behavior and overall physical health.
- If your dog is having trouble with the transition, extend the process over a few more days or seek professional help from your vet.

From The Club
I have always preferred the plant-based lifestyle over veganism because you won’t be depriving yourself with certain food options. And I think that’s also important for dogs transitioning to a new lifestyle. Changes could make them anxious and feeling deprived won’t help. It’s amazing to see how Roscoe has become healthier after the transition. It also proves that a plant-based diet could work for humans and dogs. I bet there are more health benefits to unlock when this kind of diet is combined with regular physical activities!
