Internet influencers are the new celebrities that we see online. They are these people who often post content online as a source of their income and to entertain their followers — probably an influencer term for fans. But did you know that there are dogfluencers (dog influencers), too? Better check your pooch’s social media accounts; they might be following them!
Among these internet sensations or dogfluencers is a 4-year-old Golden Retriever named Teddy. He has over four million followers on his Instagram page, @AGuyandAGoldenn where his owner and human dad, Johnathan Lower, posts daily content of him. Teddy’s followers gushed over his playful antics that he does such as wearing a costume or playing around. But one notable video that captured his followers is when Lower caught him appreciating his toys, an action that Teddy often does.
Each morning, after their usual walk, Teddy would select a toy to play with, but instead of running around the house with his toy, he would lie down quietly, and using both of his hands, he would look at every detail of the toy. Before he plays with his toy, he would take a moment and appreciates it as though he is considering his merits. Lower would often catch him in this position and record it to the camera before p[posting them online for Teddy’s followers to see.
This unusual but cute habit of Teddy was speculated by fans online. Some followers said that Teddy shows signs of intelligence since he knows how to pick his favorites and has a ritual that he’s been following. Others thought that maybe Teddy’s actions were a form of mindfulness as he’s simply a dog who’s enjoying all the things he finds fun in life.
Even Lower believes that Teddy’s behavior is exhibited by his gentle nature and love for toys. He thinks that Teddy is taking a moment to appreciate them. Teddy’s followers took a liking to Lower’s belief, as shown by the different content that Teddy posted.

Raising Awareness Towards Shelter Dogs
Teddy’s influence does not stop with his toy collection. On his Instagram account, Lower is using it to bring attention to certain causes that are close to him: pet adoption. Every week, Lower partners up with the PAWS shelter in Anderson County, South Carolina, to take a lucky shelter dog on a special day out. These outings are more than just content on Teddy’s page, it is a promotion for their followers to adopt one of the dogs that they took out for the day.
The shelter dog contents usually consist of Lower taking the dogs to the park by riding in his car — one of the most enjoyable things that a dog can do. These contents are a chance for them to shine. Surely, Teddy’s followers are dog lovers themselves so Lower hopes for these dogs to find a family that will keep them and treat them as their own.
Luckily, these contents were successful as Lowe and Teddy’s pages helped boost the adoption rates at PAWS shelters. Aside from that, they raised awareness of the importance of rescuing animals to convince followers who are planning to adopt a dog to visit their local shelters.
For Lower, the success of their social media pages is more than just Teddy’s fame. It became a platform to help shelter dogs find their way home.
