The famous saying about dogs being a man’s best friend was proven time and time again with different stories of dogs saving their humans from dangerous situations. This was once again proven in 2017. A man from Michigan was paralyzed in the snow for about 20 hours, yet his Golden Retriever never left his side until help came.
Bob is a man known for his love for the outdoors and his trusty dog companion, Kelsey. On New Year’s Eve, Bob and Kelsey decided to celebrate indoors by the fireplace while watching television. The two were completely unaware of the danger that was about to happen hours later.

While his show was on a commercial break, Bob decided to go outside to collect logs to put in the fireplace. It was a freezing 24 degrees outside, yet Bob was already used to the cold Michigan weather.
With just his slippers, long johns, and shirt as his clothing, Bob went outside. As soon as he stepped into the woodpile, he slipped over the ice that formed on the sidewalk. He fell with force, and he felt his neck break. Bob lay on the ground feeling a strong pain and paralyzed. He was all alone in his house, and he didn’t bring his phone with him to call for help. His nearest neighbor was a quarter mile away, so he was stuck in a life-threatening situation.

Kelsey’s Action to Help
Despite his best efforts to call for help, no one heard him. But during that moment, Bob’s loyal companion, Kelsey, heard his cries for help. As soon as she realized that the voice was from her owner, she rushed outside, seeing her owner lying on the ground.

Kelsey felt that something was wrong from that moment, so she never left his side. She lay next to Bob to keep his body warm in frigid temperatures. While Bob found comfort in the presence of his trusty dog, he feared that he wouldn’t survive the long winter night.
Hours passed, and Kelsey continued to bark and howl, hoping that someone would come by to help her owner. For 20 long hours, she remained by Bob’s side as her bark increased. Throughout the night, she consistently barked for anyone to come by his aid.
But sadly, as much as Kelsey’s effort to keep Bob safe, his condition worsened. The prolonged exposure to freezing temperature caused Bob’s body to drift into unconsciousness. But even when Bob can no longer respond to Kelsey or call for help, Kelsey still keeps her hope that someone will find them. Until he’s nonstop, barking finally paid off when one neighbor decided to investigate what was going on.
Bob Gets Rescued
Bob was found by his neighbor unconscious and lying on the snow while Kelsey was guarding him. He called for an emergency to transport Bob to the hospital and get him treated.

The doctors assessed Bob’s injuries and found that his spinal cord was damaged. The medical staff were able to treat him, and soon after, he felt his limbs again. As Bob regained consciousness, he expressed his gratitude to his two heroes — his neighbor and Kelsey.

From The Club
This story may be about Bob stuck in the freezing cold brought on by an accident, but Kelsey’s acts are heartwarming enough. It was unfortunate that Bob became paralyzed, but without Kelsey’s help, he wouldn’t survive the accident. I was touched by the fact that Kelsey kept Bob warm and she never left his side. Truly, dogs are a man’s best friend.
