There are tell-tale signs that dogs are happy: floppy ears, soft eyes, and belly out in the open. At the same time, there are dogs that are just naturally happy. It’s in their DNA, and they seem to be in a good mood all the time. These dogs are also friendly in nature, making them wonderful companions that can help combat loneliness and provide emotional support. 

It’s true that the mere presence of dogs can put you at ease, even in your worst moments. Can you imagine what it would be like if you’re with the happiest and friendliest dog breed? Get ready for lots of playtime, warm welcomes, and unconditional love from these dogs with cheerful disposition!  

10. Pug 

Pugs are such a charmer, with their wrinkled brow, sparkling eyes, and small drooping ears. They have been bred to become companion dogs, and they do this thing so well, they were once the companions of Chinese emperors. Pugs are also known for their wide-ranging facial expressions that will entertain you for hours: surprised, bored, curious, and of course, happy.  

9. Shih Tzu

Another companion dogs are Shih Tzus. They enjoy being close to their owners, often needing lap time and attention. In terms of mood, these dogs are known to be cheerful and energetic. While they have lower energy levels compared to large dog breeds like Border Collie, they love the thrill of chasing after tossed toys! Shih Tzus also usually get along with people of all ages, making them excellent companion dogs.

French bulldogs are social, playful, and good with children. Similar to Shih Tzus, these bulldogs don’t like to be alone, so they don’t often hide away when you have some company. When you get a frenchie, be prepared to have a second shadow. This breed always wants to be in the mix, and be quirky and playful. A perfect representation of a small dog with a big personality. 

7. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Shyness and aggression are, fortunately, not in the DNA of this breed. This means, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is exceptionally friendly and loves to be in the company of children, specifically. This dog breed makes a great family pet, loved by many for their playful and affectionate personalities. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have been described as “happy-go-lucky” dogs.

This dog breed that looks like an adorable little cloud will steal your heart. A Maltese is another affectionate dog, with a tendency to become very attached to their families. This dog breed is also ideal for first-time pet parents, as Maltese are known for their sociability. Their small size also makes them a suitable companion for most sizes of households.

5. Border Collie 

Generally, Border Collies are sociable and highly energetic dogs, but they can be wary of strangers. This is quite natural, though, as Collies were bred as working dogs. And as a result of their herding instincts, they can be fierce with people they don’t know. Border Collies are the happiest when they’re working or playing, so make sure to spend time getting active with them for 1-2 hours per day.

4. Bichon Frise 

Unlike Border Collies, the Bichon Frise breed can warm up to people pretty quickly. They are gentle, playful, and considered to be one of the most upbeat dog breeds out there. Bichon Frises can be cuddle monsters, too. Their warm and loving nature means you’ll always have someone by your side. They’re the happiest when in a snuggle session!

3. Beagle

Beagles are among the happiest dog breeds that also love people. When outdoors, they like going on long walks and playing with their hoomans. At the end of the day, they would love to get some cuddles from their favorite people. Additionally, they get along well with other animals, largely because Beagles were bred to accompany hunters in packs.

Ever looked at a Golden Retriever and felt that pure love and joy radiating from them? It’s true, goldens are known for being affectionate and social, so no wonder you can find them working as therapy dogs or service dogs. They just know how to be around people, and their kindness shines through. Golden Retrievers are also known for their “happy growl,” which they let out when expressing excitement during play or when receiving affection.

According to the American Kennel Club, Labrador Retrievers had a 31-year run of being the most popular dog breed in the US. The reason? Their incredibly outgoing and friendly personalities. Labs have been called “light-switch dogs.” It doesn’t matter if you want to go for a hike or just lounge around at home; a Labrador Retriever will be thrilled to hang with you. They can also perform tasks with a happy demeanor if trained well with positive reinforcement.
