Learning From the Cats

In California, a pit bull named Opie grew up surrounded by cats — and somewhere along the way, he decided he was one of them. His owner, Diana, says she had only ever owned cats before, so when Opie joined the household, he simply adapted to their way of life. Now, living with five cats, Opie spends his days mimicking their behavior and blending right in.
Cat-Like Habits

Opie tucks his paws neatly beneath him like a cat, curls up into a perfect ball, and even rubs his head against Diana’s legs when she comes home. He naps alongside the cats, often waking up with two or three snuggled against him. He even gives what Diana calls “cat-like judgmental looks” — expressions that make him seem more feline than canine.
Grooming and Love

Perhaps the most surprising behavior is Opie’s grooming. Diana recalls the first time she saw him licking one of the cats’ heads, almost like a protective mother. Now, it’s part of his daily routine — caring for his feline siblings as though they’re his own pack.
Changing Minds About Pit Bulls

Beyond his quirky cat-like traits, Opie has become an ambassador for his breed. Diana’s own mother once feared pit bulls, but Opie quickly won her over with his gentle, loving nature. Kids, neighbors, and visitors alike fall for his friendliness, proving that pit bulls aren’t scary — they’re loyal, affectionate, and often downright goofy.
Opie may live his life like a cat, but his biggest role is showing the world just how sweet a pittie can be.
