A Lonely Pup On The Mountain

In Arizona, a stray dog later named Kingston spent weeks surviving alone on a mountain behind a neighborhood home. With a limp, open scrapes on his legs, and no sign of an owner, it was clear he had been abandoned. Every morning, local resident Raina searched for him at dawn, setting food out and waiting patiently for him to creep down from the rocks to eat.

The Breakthrough With Stella

Despite her efforts, Kingston kept his distance — until Raina introduced her own dog, Stella. The moment he met her, Kingston wagged his tail for the very first time. From then on, he treated Stella like royalty, following her lead and showing a side of himself that was more “dog-like” than “wild.” For three weeks, Raina repeated the same routine, slowly gaining his trust through Stella’s presence.

An Epic Rescue Mission

Rescuers from Sky Sanctuary stepped in to help capture Kingston safely. Traditional traps didn’t work — he even stole equipment and hid it from them — so they set up a large drop net with food. Even then, Kingston hesitated. Finally, when Stella walked under the net, he followed her, trusting that it was safe. With that, Kingston was rescued at last.

Finding His Forever Home

Though Raina had hoped to foster him, caring for a toddler made it difficult. Instead, Kingston was placed with Monica, an experienced rescuer. The moment he walked into her home, Kingston relaxed, melted into her pack of dogs, and instantly won her heart. Monica knew immediately: “He’s not going anywhere. He’s staying with me.”
