In what seems to be a normal day of biking with a group of cyclists, they stumbled upon something in the woods that would make even the strongest person tear up. The woods reveal to them an injured dog who is fighting for his life. Heās got road rash all over his body, and his leg was clearly broken. This day would just prove to the cyclists the saying that a man is a dogās best friend.
Jarret Little, together with his cyclist friends, were just going about their day while cycling around Georgia when he noticed something out of the ordinary. Right in the corner, he spotted a dog who was hit by a car. The dog was limping towards them as it visibly looked malnourished, with its ribcage protruding through its skin.
Little and his friends, without hesitation, gathered around the helpless dog and examined the state that he was in. But despite it all, the dog still greeted the cyclers by wagging his tail.
They knew that they couldnāt transport the dog since they were only using their bicycles, and the town was miles away from where they were. They need to move fast since the longer they wait, the more that the dogās condition could worsen. Little doesnāt have the heart to leave him, so he does the only available option, which is to carry the dog in piggyback style while riding back to town.

The journey wasnāt easy as Little while peddling on his bicycle, could feel the weight of the dog on his back. He is also making sure that the dog doesnāt fall which could further cause injuries. Little secures the dog by positioning his back to make sure that the dog is comfortable.

A Chance Encounter
After what felt like an eternity, Little and his cyclist friends reached town, so they went to rest by the local bike shop where they could feed and let the dog drink. But as they were taking turns feeding the dog, a chance encounter was about to happen when a stranger who introduced herself as Andrea Shaw approached the group.
Shaw was from Maine, and she had just stopped by to do her business when the dog caught her eye. She was moved by the story, and that instantly made her feel a connection. She took responsibility for the dogās medical care and offered to adopt him. Shaw arranged for surgery to repair the dogās leg and look for an organization that was willing to transport the dog to her horse farm in Maine. It was at that moment that the dog got his own name, Columbo.Ā
While Columbo undergoes surgery, Shaw begins planning how to transport and welcome Columbo into his new home. She reached out to different volunteers who transport rescued animals from long distances. Luckily, the surgery went well for Columbo but he would need to travel with 25 stitches in his hind leg and four pins to stabilize his fracture. He also has a full cast, as seen in his front leg, due to his broken toe.

As soon as Columbo recovered from his surgery, the volunteers gathered to support him by organizing his safe transport to Maine. As he was being transported, the volunteers made sure that he took his medications on time. They also updated his new owner, Shaw, about how he is doing.
After several days of waiting, Columbo finally arrived in Maine to be with Shaw and run freely around her farm. Columbo became Shawās new companion as he will be spending his lifetime with his new family.Ā

From The Club
With the bad news that we receive every day, this story proves that there are kind people left on earth. From Jarrett Little and his cyclist friends to Andrea Shaw, who adopted Columbo, it warms my heart to know that there is a chance for rescue dogs. I guess all they need to meet is someone who is willing to take them not only in their homes but also in their lives. I wish all rescue and shelter dogs everlasting happiness with someone whom they can consider as family. š„ŗ
