Hero-ic Canine Stays by Owner’s Side
In Taber, Alberta, an amazing story of loyalty and survival unfolded when a man became trapped in a muddy ditch for two days with his dog. The Taber Police Service shared this heartwarming tale, which began with the report of a potentially injured dog wandering alone.
Loyal Dog Protects Injured Man
Officers responded to the first call near a local sugar factory but couldn’t find the dog. Later that day, another call led them back to the area, where they discovered an Akita-cross breed dog named Hero lying on a berm. As they approached, they heard a man crying out for help.
The 61-year-old Taber resident had been stuck, and his faithful dog Hero had not only stayed by his side to keep him warm but had also bravely fended off coyotes. The man received medical attention at the hospital, while Hero was treated by a veterinarian.
Community Rallies to Support Hero
In response to Hero’s bravery and the man’s ordeal, the Taber Lost Paws Society initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help cover veterinary costs for the courageous dog.
The story serves as a touching reminder of the unbreakable bond between humans and their canine companions, proving once again why dogs are often referred to as man’s best friend.
