If you’re a dog owner, one thing that you always look forward to is going home to your dog, who’s always waiting for you on the other side of the door. It may even remind you of Japan’s Hachiko, who’s always waiting for his owner at the train station, where he alights every evening. Well, the movie may leave you in tears, but this Great Dane that you’re about to see will make you smile.
In a YouTube video posted by Ryan Henderson, a rescued Great Dane can be seen in front of a car, seemingly waiting for someone. Later on, a woman comes out of the car, which we can see as the Great Dane’s owner. The dog’s tail wagged like crazy as he ran up to receive some pats since he’d been a good boy while his owner was gone.

The video garnered over 2.7 million views and pretty much says how many dog owners relate to it. While others would wait on the other side of the door, this Great Dane waits for his owner in the driveway, blocking the way, which is enough to give the audience some laughs.
Scrolling through the comment section, one commenter jokingly made a scenario wherein the Great Dane blocking the car demands that her owner pay the toll fee. When the owner asks how much, the dog will say that a hug is enough, which is why she opened the car door to give out some hugs.

While others were in tears since it reminded them of their dog who passed away, another commenter said that the video was an actual description of a “fine adult Great Dane’s personality.” However, the dog of the commenter passed away after living a good life for 15 years. The commenter offered a thumbs up to the owner for adopting the Great Dane as he feels nostalgic just by watching the entire video.
It seems like a lot of people were delighted, judging from the comment section. But many Great Dane owners agreed with how gentle these big dogs are. They say that if you ever doubt them, then you simply don’t own one. It’s easy to get lost in their huge built, but you have to listen to Great Dane owners when they say that they are one of the sweetest dog breeds out there.

Why Own a Great Dane?

So you’re looking to get or adopt a dog, and you happen to stumble upon this story. Isn’t it meant for you to own a Great Dane? The American Kennel Club (AKC) calls Great Danes “the mighty Apollo of all dogs.”
Why? These gentle giants stand about 32 inches tall at the shoulder, and their sizes are eves impressive when they stand up on their hind legs. The AKC praises Great Danes for the way they carry themselves together and for their physical look of elegance and balance.
Great Danes also come in different colors from others, which are more striking than the other due to the patterns that some of them possess. Their unique coat makes them look clean and poised, much like how you imagine a rich dog to be. 😂
But don’t get them wrong, despite their friendly nature, they also make great guard dogs as they are very protective of their owners. Their size alone is enough to scare away those with bad intentions toward their owners, but the AKC notes that those who are foolish enough to mistake their friendliness for softness will meet someone who is a “powerful foe.”
Other than that, they’re great to be around kids as they are very patient. Since they are sociable dogs who greet everyone with a smile. However, before you commit to that Great Dane you’re seeing for weeks, make sure that you have enough resources like finances and a huge space for them to run around freely.

From The Club
This video made me miss my gentle giant, Calix, who passed away a month ago. He was also friendly, and he would always be by the door when I went home from school. It was a beautiful 14 years with him that I would never trade with anything. That being said, make sure you give beautiful memories to that Great Dane (or any other dogs) that wait for you by the door (or driveway 😂). Someday, it will all be a beautiful memory that you will always go back to.
