Meghan Markle’s Tearful Goodbye to Her Loyal Companion

Dog News
By Angela Park

Losing a pet is probably one of the hardest things that a person can go through in their life. They’ve become a part of our family, and share every moment with them. However, we still need to face the reality of life that someday, they have to go and leave us with just their memories. That’s exactly what Meghan Markle felt when she had to let go of her rescue dog, a Beagle named Guy.

In a heartbreaking tribute, the Duchess of Sussex announced the death of Guy through a video with a compilation of his and their photos and videos together on Instagram.  She admitted crying “too many tears to count” over the dog’s death.

Markle recalled that she got Guy back in 2015 from Canada as a dog rescue. He came from a kill shelter in Kentucky and was given only a few days left to live. The Duchess did everything that she could to save poor Guy until she finally got the rights to adopt him, and she fell in love.

The Life and Legacy of Guy

Continuing from the Instagram post, Markle even mentioned how she ended up with the name ‘Guy,’ and it was because of how everyone referred to the beagle as the ‘little guy’ since he is small and frail. For Markle, the beagle was the best guy that any girl could have asked for.

The Duchess recalled how Guy was with him in the biggest moments of her life — at the show Suits, her engagement with now-husband Prince Harry, their wedding day, and when she became a mom. She described those moments as “the quiet, the chaos, the calm, and the comfort.”

She also recalled another one of Guy’s life-threatening moments when he suffered a terrible accident before she moved to the UK. It had Guy undergoing surgeries for several months as he was not allowed to leave the animal clinic. The doctors informed her that Guy would never be able to walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said that he could do it. The Duchess, together with the Duke, would drive late at night to see Guy as he recovers from his surgeries.

The Duchess went on to thank everyone who loved Guy, including the team at Queen West Animal Hospital, his veterinarians, her friends, and the community. Markle ended her message with another thank you note.

From The Club

Dogs who crossed the rainbow bridge remind me of the death of my precious Calix and Wolfy last year. Wolfy passed away last May, and several months later, Calix followed in November. I keep their ashes inside an urn with their faces painted on them. It’s just like having them at home once again as they’re staying together inside a special see-through case so we can always see their smiling faces through the hand-paint.
